Our Community Sewing Space

The Sewing Room is a shared community space for members, volunteers, classes and creative projects.

It includes over 10 sewing machines, overlockers, a large drafting and cutting table, fabric, notions and space for sewing, repairing, pattern drafting, constructing and learning.

Using the Sewing Room as a member

To use the Sewing Room for your own projects, you need to become a member and complete a Health & Safety induction first.

Some sewing machines and equipment may also require an introduction, training or sign-off before use. A supervisor must be present during open member sessions.

Please check the Workshop Schedule before coming in, as session times, volunteer groups, private bookings and classes may change.

Volunteer and community sewing sessions

Our sewing volunteers help with community projects, repairs, recycled fabric projects and other work that supports the workshop.

These sessions are a great way to meet others, learn practical skills and help create useful things for the community. New volunteers are welcome, but please check the Workshop Schedule or contact the team before coming in for the first time.

Want to learn to sew?

If you are new to sewing, or want help with a specific skill, check our Courses & Classes page for upcoming beginner-friendly sewing classes and workshops.

Courses may include guided projects, sewing basics, alterations, pattern drafting, repairs or creative textile workshops.

Donations for the Sewing Room

We welcome useful sewing supplies and materials that are clean, usable and suitable for community projects.

We are often grateful for donations of clean fabric, thread, zips, buttons, patterns, sewing tools and useful haberdashery items.

Please contact us before dropping off large items, machines, furniture, large fabric quantities or anything that may need repair.
