The Wood Workshop is a shared community space for members, volunteers and workshop projects.
It includes an assembly area for hand tools, battery tools and project work, as well as a machinery area with larger tools and equipment. Members can use the space for their own projects once they have completed membership registration, Health & Safety induction, and any required tool training.
Using the Wood Workshop as a member
To use the Wood Workshop for your own projects, you need to become a member and complete a Health & Safety induction first.
Some tools and machinery also require tool training and sign-off before you can use them independently. A supervisor must be present during open workshop sessions.
Please check the Workshop Schedule before coming in, as session times, volunteer groups, private bookings and training sessions may change.
Volunteer and community project sessions
Our Wood Workshop volunteers work on community projects, repairs, recycled timber projects and items that support the workshop.
These sessions are a great way to meet others, learn practical skills and help create useful things for the community. New volunteers are welcome, but please check the Workshop Schedule or contact the team before coming in for the first time.
Want to learn woodworking?
If you are new to woodworking or want a more guided introduction, check our Courses & Classes page for upcoming workshops, including beginner-friendly woodwork sessions when available.
Tool training and sign-off
Health & Safety induction booked on registration, gives new members an introduction to the workshop, rules and safe use of the space.
Tool training then is required before using selected tools and machinery. This may include an introductory tool session, supervised practice and sign-off by an approved trainer or supervisor. You may come back for a number of trainings to be signed competent for use of other advanced machines.
If you are unsure what training you need, please ask the supervisor at your next session.
